The artists behind the sculpture

This sculpture was completed in Oct., 2026 by three talented sculptors working together:

Janet Moore Schrader

Janet came down from Michigan to help out with Sandcastle Days and work on the holiday sculpture.

Over the next several weeks, we will add ornaments and lights to the tree that Janet made.

Thank you, Janet!

Yoshi Matsue

Yoshi is a Japanese sand sculptor who has competed at Sandcastle Days twice now. Last year, she made our lovely Peace Angel, which greets you at our entrance.

This year, we have her to thank for our adorable “Toasty the SandMan” scene, as well as a joyous New Year Baby reminding us what comes right after Christmas.

Emerson Schreiner beside Santa Willie in the holiday sculpture

Santa Willie

Emerson Schreiner

This year’s “Santa Willie” was carved by Emerson Schreiner from Galveston, an artist well-loved on South Padre Island. Emerson is also responsible for at least two other sculptures currently featured in our gallery: The Octopus and “Keeper of the Grove.”

Combining Willie Nelson and Santa into one happy character is turning into something of a tradition here at the Village…
